Verizon TravelPass Cost 2026: Daily Rates, Auto-Enrollment, and How to Save

Verizon TravelPass charges $10 per day in 210+ countries. The daily fee covers 24 hours of talk, text, and data access drawn from the customer's domestic plan allotment. Canada and Mexico carry a lower rate of $5 per day, with some Unlimited plans including both countries at no charge. TravelPass activates automatically without any opt-in action from the customer.

TravelPass bills per line, not per account. Two travelers on the same Verizon account pay $20 per day combined at the standard rate. Unlike AT&T's International Day Pass, Verizon does not apply a monthly billing cap. A 21-day international trip costs $210 with no ceiling. For very long trips, Verizon's International Monthly Plan at $100 per month with 20GB becomes the better Verizon option, but an eSIM still beats both on price.

Data speed while on TravelPass depends on which Verizon plan the customer holds. Unlimited Ultimate plan customers get up to 2GB of high-speed data per TravelPass day before throttling. Unlimited Welcome and Unlimited Plus customers get up to 500MB of high-speed data per day before speeds drop. Both tiers share the same $10 per day TravelPass charge. Verizon does not prominently disclose this data allotment difference between its own Unlimited plan tiers.

Auto-enrollment causes specific problems in three common travel scenarios. The first is airport layovers: a traveler with a connecting flight at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) who has data roaming enabled will connect to a German network in the terminal and trigger a $10 TravelPass charge for that 24-hour period, even if the stopover lasts only 2 hours. The third scenario is cruise ship departures: travelers who keep data roaming enabled while boarding a cruise ship at a US port may connect to a nearby Canadian or Mexican network if the port is close to the border. Fort Lauderdale cruise terminals are far enough from international boundaries for this to be rare, but travelers departing from San Diego, Seattle, or Texas Gulf Coast ports face higher auto-enrollment risk before the ship leaves US waters.

Disputing auto-enrollment charges: call Verizon at 1-800-922-0204, reference the date and location of the charge, and request a courtesy credit for accidental activation. Verizon grants this credit approximately once per 12-month period per line. If your charge was from a genuine layover or border zone activation, the representative can see your location data attached to the charge. Be specific about what happened.

TravelPass is available on all current Verizon Unlimited postpaid plans. Legacy tiered data plans also support TravelPass. Verizon prepaid plans do not support TravelPass at all. Prepaid Verizon customers must buy separate international data packages at different rates.

The data allotment difference between Unlimited Ultimate and lower tiers at the same $10 per day price is significant in practice. A traveler on Unlimited Welcome gets 500MB of 4G speed before throttling. At normal smartphone usage with Maps, messaging, and photo uploads, 500MB runs out in 2-4 hours. After that, the traveler paid $10 for a day but gets 3G speeds for the remaining 18-20 hours. An eSIM or e SIM provides 5-10GB at full LTE speed for less than the cost of a single TravelPass day.

Verizon TravelPass covers 210+ countries at the $10 per day standard rate. Canada and Mexico carry the $5 per day rate, with some plans including both at no charge. The major travel destinations in Europe, Asia, and South America fall under standard TravelPass coverage. A handful of countries have either no TravelPass coverage or limited partner network agreements that result in 3G-only access even though the destination has 4G infrastructure.

Multi-country trips in Europe trigger no additional daily charges beyond the standard $10 rate. A traveler going from Germany to Austria to Switzerland in one day pays one $10 TravelPass charge for the 24-hour period across all three countries. However, Switzerland is not an EU member, so travelers with EU SIM cards using EU Roam Like at Home rules get different treatment than US Verizon customers. Verizon treats all three countries equally at the $10 rate.

Verizon offers an International Monthly Plan at $100 per month for unlimited talk, text, and 20GB of data in 210+ countries. For trips longer than 10 days, this plan costs less than TravelPass at $10 per day. A 14-day trip on TravelPass costs $140. The International Monthly Plan costs $100. A 30-day trip on TravelPass costs $300. The monthly plan costs $100.

Verizon does not promote the International Monthly Plan on its main international roaming page. Store representatives rarely mention it. Adding the plan requires visiting the My Verizon app under Account, then Manage Add-ons, then International, and searching for the monthly plan specifically. It must be added at least one billing cycle before departure in some cases. The monthly plan is the better Verizon option for long trips, but a travel eSIM or e-SIM still saves $80-90 over even the monthly plan for most travelers.

Four methods exist to prevent TravelPass from activating. The safest approach combines multiple methods before departure.

   Remove TravelPass via My Verizon app

   Go to Account, then Manage Add-ons, then International, then remove TravelPass from your line. This takes 2-4 hours to process. Without TravelPass, Verizon switches to per-use billing at $1.79/min for calls, $0.50/text, and $2.05/MB for data. Disable data roaming too.

   Text TRAVEL to 4004 to check TravelPass status

   Verizon's short code returns your current TravelPass status. If it is active, you can reply to disable it. Keep the confirmation text as documentation in case of a billing dispute.

   Dial *611 from your Verizon phone

   Request TravelPass removal from customer service. Wait times average 10-25 minutes. Request a case number for the removal request in case billing issues arise later.

   Disable data roaming on the phone itself

   On iPhone: Settings, then Cellular, then Data Roaming toggle off. On Android: Settings, then Network, then Data Roaming off. This prevents the most common auto-enrollment trigger: background app data. Voice and SMS can still connect to foreign networks on some Verizon configurations.
